Start by role¶
This site has over two hundred pages, and it is hard to tell on a first visit which ones apply to you. This section gives each role one starting path: three pages for a twenty-minute pass, eight to ten for a week.
Every link points at a page that already exists here. Nothing on these five pages is new material.
What this site adds, and what it does not
For general digital-safety how-to written for a global audience, EFF Surveillance Self-Defense and Privacy Guides are well-established and we link to them rather than duplicating them. What the paths below add is the regional layer: how a tool behaves across the Sinophone Asia-Pacific, what a local statute changes about your threat model, and measurement from inside the region.
Regulatory pages are Taiwan-specific unless stated otherwise — Taiwan is the only jurisdiction where this community has first-hand standing. Treat them as worked examples and check your own jurisdiction.
Five entry points¶
-
Civil society
Staff and long-term volunteers at advocacy groups, service NGOs, and research organizations. Data inventory, anonymous tip channels, anonymous donations, and data-protection duties.
-
Newsrooms
Organizations with an editorial desk, legal counsel, and IT. Public intake channels, material retention and disclosure requests, verification that does not burn the source.
-
Independent journalists
Freelancers, one-person outlets, citizen journalists. Compartmentalizing a single device, running an intake channel alone, preparing for border crossings.
-
Open-source developers
People who run servers, write code, or work with data. Relays, bridges, measurement analysis, and campus deployments: four lines you can pick up.
-
General readers
No specific adversary, you would just rather not be profiled by platforms and ad networks. Starts with the lowest-cost changes, and is the shared baseline under the other four roles.
How this differs from the other entry points¶
| What you are looking for | Where to go |
|---|---|
| Who I am, and which pages to read first | This section |
| A complete workflow for a specific risk | Scenarios |
| What a tool does, its limits, how to configure it | Tools |
| What anonymity, privacy, and metadata actually mean | Concepts |
| Measurement and regulation across the region | Regional observatory |
| Joining the community | Community |
| Help right now | Emergency help |
If none of these fit¶
These five are the audiences this community works with most often, and plenty of situations fall outside them. Tell us about yours in the public Matrix room and it helps us decide which entry point to write next. To share practical experience anonymously, write to whisper@anoni.net.
