Services

Open-source software the community runs for anyone to use.

This software is developed by other open-source projects, and the community sets it up, updates it and keeps it running. We run it ourselves to depend less on third parties, keep control of our data, and give community discussion and sensitive collaboration a foundation we can vouch for. The content and code the community writes itself are listed under projects.

Matrix, CryptPad and the Formbricks backend need an account issued by a person, so write to whisper@anoni.net. The community works asynchronously, so expect a reply within a day or two.

MatrixChat

Day-to-day discussion, per-topic rooms and event coordination. The homeserver is im.anoni.net. Use Element on the web or Element X on a phone.

Account on request by email.onion

CryptPadEncrypted documents

Collaborative writing and event planning for material that needs encryption, with Traditional and Simplified Chinese interfaces built in.

Account on request by email, 50 MB by default

EtherpadShared notes

Notes taken together during an event and quick throwaway drafts. Nothing is encrypted and anyone with the link can read it, so keep sensitive material out.

SearXNGPrivate search

Results from several search engines with no logging, no ads and no third-party cookies. You can make it your browser's default.

SendEncrypted file transfer

Files are encrypted in the browser before upload, and links can carry a password, a download limit and an expiry. Up to 2.5 GB, kept for at most 7 days.

FormbricksForms

Newsletter sign-ups, event registration and feedback. A self-hosted form keeps respondents out of a third-party provider's tracking.

No account to fill in, on request to create forms.onion

Joining Matrix

  1. Use Element on the web, or download Element X and set the homeserver to im.anoni.net. An existing matrix.org account works fine.
  2. Once registered, open the community's public Space to join the community rooms in one go, or join individual rooms as you need them.

For why we self-host Matrix and the privacy trade-offs behind it, see From Discord’s Age Verification to Why We Self-Host Matrix.

Good to know

  • CryptPad has shipped Traditional and Simplified Chinese as built-in locales since 2026.5.0, switchable from the settings page. The story of the two and a half years of upstream translation behind that is in this announcement.
  • Etherpad works as a throwaway chat when you meet someone in person and neither of you wants to swap app accounts. Open a new pad, hand over the URL and use the chat sidebar, then clear the pad when you are done. Nothing is encrypted, so the server can see it.
  • Send gives the server no access to file contents and keeps no routine access logs. What it stores and for how long is in How send.anoni.net handles your data.

Video calls (external)

Online meetings use Jitsi, offered free by a third party rather than run by the community, so its terms and availability are theirs. Meeting links are posted in the relevant Matrix room.
