BeatBird users hit by fake billing emails; company reports it to police, data protection officer investigating

Several users of the health app BeatBird have received billing notices pretending to come from the company. The emails contain users’ names and phone numbers, and some even state the user’s recent average hours of sleep.

BeatBird says it has reported the emails to the police, and the data protection officer it appointed in October is tracing where the member data came from. The company stresses that after September’s leak, its partnership with an insurer has been suspended, and that only three pilot files have been provided to partner companies, under contract.

The 165 anti-fraud hotline reminds the public that real companies never ask you to search for support, scan a QR code, or “cancel a payment” at an ATM or in online banking.
